Utilising tried and tested principles and theory around professional youth and community work, Informal Learning delivers high quality, grass roots youth work across the district and beyond, whilst maintaining a particular focus within the community in which it is based and rooted.
To help meet the diverse needs of young people we deliver:
- Drop in sessions and Youth Clubs
- Extended School Activities
- Holiday Clubs
- Detached work
- Trips and Residentials
- Educational projects
More specialised projects including Sports, Arts and Crafts, Music and Technology.
Our success, professional expertise and proven track record have led other organisations to request our help and many of our workers provide hands on support to other youth work settings and projects.
Extended Schools and Holiday Clubs
In 2009 Informal Learning was asked by the extended school team to pilot three holiday clubs - Easter 09, Summer 09 and Easter 10. These pilots proved to be very successful with young people, parents, and the local schools attracting up to 55 young people on a daily basis. From t shirt painting to treasure hunts, 10 pin bowling to cricket, activities are designed to be fun, active and educational. With up to 55 young people attending, the holiday clubs have proved very successful receiving positive feedback in all evaluations from parents, staff and children alike.
Through the success of these pilots and building partnerships with the schools we are now being asked to deliver this provision in three different school pyramids across the Wakefield district. Our aim over the next year is to further develop this service to other school pyramids.
As well as providing holiday schemes we also work within the schools delivering lunch time and after school activities which include:
- Arts and crafts sessions.
- Growing clubs
- Girls/boys active club
- Peer support group for transition to high schools
- Fun fitness
